Work to improve pedestrian accessibility has continued in the area of 28 Iyulya Street, Oktyabrskoy Revolyutsii Street and Varshavskoye Highway in Brest.
Attention had previously been drawn to several pedestrian crossings and sidewalk transitions following road works. At some locations, additional improvements were required to provide safer and more convenient movement for people with reduced mobility.
These elements are particularly important for people with disabilities using wheelchairs, mobility scooters and other mobility aids, as well as older people, parents with strollers and other people with reduced mobility.
Following requests and an inspection of the area by municipal services, locations requiring improved transitions between pedestrian and cycling routes and the roadway were identified.
According to official information, in August 2026 additional curb ramps were completed at the relevant intersection to improve transitions between pedestrian and cycling routes and the roadway.
Some pedestrian crossings in the area already had lowered curbs. The additional work improves route continuity and accessibility for people with disabilities and other people with reduced mobility.
Creating a barrier-free environment requires consistent work across the entire route, including sidewalks, crossings, curb ramps and connections with the roadway.
The Belarusian Public Association for Assistance to People with Disabilities “Invalid i Sreda” will continue to follow urban accessibility issues and the implementation of accessibility improvements.
