In a short time, an architect from Helsenki using a wheelchair, KILPELÄ Niine, managed to conduct a useful analysis of the barrier-free environment of the Euroopt supermarket in Brest along Warsaw Highway and the Green House of the Sputnik tourist base in Beloe Lake, Brest region.
On the second day, in accordance with the program of annual advanced training in the Brest Regional Executive Committee, guests from Finland (there were 5 of them) under the leadership of Könkkölä Kalle gave a lecture at the Brest State Technical University with teachers and students - architects and in the afternoon introduced 20 chief architects of cities and districts of the Brest region and interested specialists from 5 design institutes of Brest with the organization of barrier-free living environments in Finnish cities and populated areas in simple and accessible ways.
Kalle, an interesting person who was born in a wheelchair, a former politician, member of the Finnish Parliament and head of the public organization "Threshold", was at the origins of organizing a barrier-free environment in his country. He and his colleagues presented their experience of a simple and affordable solution for a non-hydraulic opening ramp on Helsinki city buses. They long ago abandoned the unreliable mechanical-hydraulic lifting stage and came to a simple manual folding ramp. During the conversation, European standards and regulations for a barrier-free environment in Finland were presented, and in their free time they took a ride along the street. Soviet and the center of our city of Brest, which they liked.
