TASKS: To organize a student project process for a barrier-free living environment for people with disabilities on the campus of a polytechnic university. Based on the results of the competition, develop a working draft, approve it, undergo an examination, so that, with the help of student teams and construction institutions in the city of Brest, the creation of a barrier-free environment can be realized in practice.
In Belarus, about 510 thousand disabled people are currently registered with labor and social security authorities. More than 2.6 million citizens are physically weakened in the republic.
In order to create conditions for a barrier-free environment for them, independent living and their integration into society, the State Program on a barrier-free living environment for physically impaired persons for 2007-2010 was adopted. According to the document, by 2011, 50% of Belarusian infrastructure will have to meet the requirements of a barrier-free environment.
In the Brest region ....., in Brest ......, among them ...% are people of young productive age who need education, subsequent employment and development of their careers. Achieving these goals for people with disabilities faces insurmountable obstacles in the form of narrow doorways, high curbs, and steep flights of stairs. Solving these problems requires the participation of the entire healthy part of the country's population. But the most important thing in this work is the moral code of each participant in this process.
As centers of scientific, social and cultural life, universities can take on the function of integrating people with musculoskeletal disorders into society by creating a barrier-free living environment, so that they subsequently have equal conditions with other members of society when entering the labor market.
Along with healthcare institutions, educational institutions must first of all be adapted for the movement of people with disabilities. Since the beginning of the state program, measures to create a barrier-free environment have been carried out at 12 sites of republican organizations of the Ministry of Education. These are selected corpuses of some universities and institutes.
Of course, there is a share of architects and builders in this participation. After all, they have to not only design new buildings taking into account the requirements of accessibility and humane living environment, but also adjust projects that have already been completed, and restore old buildings.
BrSTU is also ready to join the process. BrSTU students, members of the youth public association “Belarusian Association of Architectural Students” (hereinafter referred to as IOO “BASA”), took the initiative to prepare, on a competitive basis, a project for adapting university buildings and the surrounding area for the movement of people with limited static-dynamic functions.
IOO "BASA" was created in 1993 on the initiative of architecture students of the Belarusian Polytechnic Academy. The main goal of the organization is to promote the development of architectural science and practice, and to promote advanced achievements in the field of architecture. BASA unites architecture students from the Belarusian National Technical University (Minsk), Belarusian State University of Transport (Gomel), Brest State Technical University, Polotsk State University (Novopolotsk) and sets itself the following tasks:
• design, study and transformation of the built environment for the purpose of improvement;
• identifying and solving problems of architectural education, developing proposals for the introduction of flexible forms of organizing the educational process;
• studying the problems of modern architectural practice and the active inclusion of students in industrial relations;
• dissemination of the positive experience of research and creative work of architecture students in the organization of the educational process and the formation of modern methods of architectural education.
The youth association organizes exhibitions, lectures, seminars, and organizes student work competitions on a particular topic. For several years, BASA has been the organizer of volunteer summer architectural camps. The organization has the right to carry out production, economic and publishing activities to achieve established goals and objectives.
